No, all of our Verbatim USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and USB 3.1/3.2 hard drives are recognised by plug&play automatically.
Enter Terminal in the Spotlight search field and open it. Admin password can be needed.
diskutil eraseDisk HFS+ diskname diskidentifier
Note: All data on your Verbatim hard drive will be deleted. If needed, please backup your files first.
Please follow the steps below:
- Press the windows and r key at the same time
- diskpart (type in and press Enter)
- list disk (type in and press Enter)
- Locate the number of your Verbatim Hard Drive
- select disk x (type in and press Enter)
- clean (type in and press Enter)
- convert MBR (type in and press Enter)
- create partition primary (type in and press Enter)
Now you can open the Verbatim Formatter Software and format it with Fat32.
Note : All data on your Verbatim hard drive will be deleted. If needed, please backup your files first. MBR partition style with Fat32 file system is only supported with hard drives up to 2TB.
Keep at least one copy of your valuable data or more for a higher security against technical failure issues.
Ideally follow the 3-2-1 Backup rule.
3 copies of your data, 2 different media types, 1 of these backups stored offsite.
Conventional and flash hard drives wear out over time. Conventional hard drives wear out due to mechanical erosion whereas flash cells wear out due to electrical reasons. Reading tasks though are possible without any limitation. However, one flash cell can only take care of writing tasks between 3.000 (MLC 25nm) und 100.000 (SLC ) depending on the quality. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting) is a technology built into SSDs and hard drives for self montoring and analysis purposes. By means of a special software, S.M. A.R.T values can be analysed and possible failure forecasts can be compiled. Consequently, a switch to read-only modus may occur.
The filesystem Fat32 has a file size limitation at 3,99GB. Backup your data first and format your hard drive in ExtFat or NTFS, to solve that. Right click on the drive letter and select format.
Note : Formatting the Verbatim Hard Drive erases all the information stored on the drive.
Please backup needed files first.
NTFS or ExFat Format is required, if you use files larger than 3,9GB.
- Connect the drive to a Windows 10/11 computer
- Right click on Windows Start icon
- Select Windows Disk Management
- On the lower right pane locate the Verbatim drive and right-click on it
- Select Format
- Select NTFS if you want to use it with Windows computers
- Select ExFat if you want to use it with Mac and Windows computers
- Type in a Volume label
- Click OK
- Click OK to start formatting
- Formatting is finished and drive shows up as D: drive in Windows File Explorer

Unless otherwise stated, all Verbatim products are covered by a 2-Year Limited Warranty. If a defect in materials or workmanship is identified during the warranty period, Verbatim will replace the product free of charge with an equivalent product.
This warranty applies exclusively to Verbatim internal SSD products. The warranty is valid for products purchased on or after November 27, 2024. If a proven defect in materials or workmanship occurs during the warranty period, the SSD will be replaced free of charge.
This warranty applies to Verbatim DRAM products (memory modules). Verbatim warrants that DRAM products will be free from defects in materials and workmanship during the warranty period. In the event of a valid warranty claim, the product will be replaced free of charge with an equivalent or technically comparable product.
This warranty applies exclusively to Verbatim optical storage media (CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and M-DISC). Defective products will be replaced free of charge.

Get in touch by email or phone. Our team will help diagnose the issue.
Request an RMA number
If the product is found to be faulty, you’ll receive a Return Material Authorisation (RMA) number to send the product back.
Package the product properly
Use original packaging if available
Clearly mark the RMA number on the outside
Include any original accessories (cables, power adapter, etc.)
Once we receive your return, we’ll repair or replace the product as soon as possible.
