Despec Iceland is teaming up with Verbatim GmbH to begin distributing its full range of data storage products, IT accessories and 3D printing filaments to further boost its strong portfolio for the IT and office supplies channel.

Verbatim is best known for its data storage products – USB drives, hard disk drives, memory cards, SSDs and optical media in particular (blank Blu-Ray DVD and CD discs) where it is the world’s number one brand. Verbatim also has a comprehensive range of computer-related accessories including power banks, cables, adapters, computer bags, mice and batteries, as well as a range of high quality 3D filaments for the growing 3D printing industry. 

The new Verbatim Fingerprint Secure Hard Drive uses a combination of AES 256-bit hardware encryption and biometric technology to seamlessly encrypt all data on the drive in real-time ensuring that any data saved on it is safe from unauthorised access if ever lost or stolen.  The external hard drive is quick and easy to use and is compliant with GDPR requirements as 100% of the drive is securely encrypted.

The built-in fingerprint recognition system in the Verbatim HDD allows access for up to eight authorised users and one administrator. Once set up, users can lock and unlock the device in seconds by just using their registered fingerprint.  The hard drive does not store passwords in the computer or system's volatile memory making it far more secure than software encryption.

Verbatim, the leading data storage company and part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, has appointed Clive Alberts as President for its EUMEA operation.  The position was previously held by Hidetaka Yabe who returns to Tokyo, Japan to undertake a General Manager’s role within the Corporate Marketing Department at Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.

So, what is backup?

Creating a backup refers to making a ‘copy’ of the data (e.g. images, videos, important documents) or ideally two copies, and keeping both copies in case something happens to the original. Transferring your holiday or wedding pictures from your camera to your memory card or hard drive to free up space in your camera is not backing up – the idea of a back­up is to have spare copies saved on other storage devices in case something happens to the master files.
