Verbatim, part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group, has launched a high performance water soluble support material, Butenediol Vinyl Alcohol Co-polymer (BVOH), for quick and successful printing of complex objects with overhangs using dual extrusion 3D printers.
Verbatim’s BVOH is an easy to print material with reliable extrusion properties and a quick dissolve time, much faster than current PVA / PVOH materials in the market, allowing designers to realize their 3D models far quicker than before.
BVOH extrudes at up to 30mm/s and adheres well to a variety of materials, especially Verbatim´s PLA, PET and ABS, allowing users to benefit from the properties that these different materials provide. Conveniently the waste can be disposed with household effluent, at a dilution rate of greater than 20 parts water to one part BVOH, which is very easy to achieve.
“Verbatim BVOH is very reliable and prints like regular 3D printing material, meaning that more complex objects can be designed and printed at high quality,” said Shigeyuki Furomoto, Manager, Global CEO office, Mitsubishi Chemical Media. “This printing performance, together with its fast dissolving speed will help push desktop material extrusion printer usage much more into both industry and professional maker applications.”
A number of new dual extrusion printers have recently been introduced to the market and with greater use of soluble material support structures such as BVOH, designers can now break free from some of the compromises involved with printing support structures on single extrusion printers.
Verbatim’s 1.75mm diameter BVOH filament is available now (part number 55901), with the 2.85mm diameter version available from September.
