Why Optical Media?

Optical media is expected to be a long tail business because many consumers continue to use existing hardware such as Blu-ray & DVD players or car CD players rather than upgrade to new technologies. This is similar to legacy recording media such as floppy disc, audio & VHS cassettes which continued to be purchased for decades after hardware was superseded. It also has the advantage that it is the only storage media designed for long term archival if it is stored in the right conditions.
